  • Old Navy Try On -Tops

Old Navy is such a great place to pick up tops for the summer. I like to browse around and collect several styles and colors and then try them out. I am always surprised by what I choose to bring home and what stays. Can you guess what items below made the cut??

See the shorts from this Old Navy haul here. I shared several great ones and am excited to share these tops with you now. As always, I shop with my current wardrobe in mind. This means that I am conscious of garment quality and fabric content. I stick to natural fibers like cotton, linen and silk. I will skip over anything with too much polyester or rayon in a blend.

    GRAPHIC CROPPED TEE

A graphic tee is a great addition to an outfit. It takes a casual vibe and lends a modern edge to leggings, denim shorts and bike shorts.

    BOWIE CROPPED TEE

FIT: This cute David Bowie tee is so much fun, and would look great with some bike shorts, or leggings.

SIZE: Loose fit. I sized up for oversize and drape.

CARE: Cotton-blend Jersey materials washes and dries well.

COST: $5.97 (originally $22.99) you can purchase it here.

    RIB CROPPED BABY TEE

FIT: I was excited about this tee in theory. 90s baby tees were my jam when I was 18. I lived in them. 18 is a long time ago, 3 kids later and baby tees don’t hit the same at all. I passed on this one becuase of the thin materials and fabric content (zero cotton, all polyester, rayon and spandex). I stick with very high cotton contents for quality and when you mix in too much polyester the fabric doesn’t breathe anymore, which will just make you hotter than hot in the summer heat. The fit is a crewneck with a slight rib, and shirttail hem.

SIZE: This is a small. I could size up to a medium for a looser fit, but the fabric would be the same.

CARE: Polyester, rayon and spandex needs to be cold washed and hung dry. This is not my first choice when it comes to purchasing clothing. I steer away from these types of tops and bottoms. Cotton, linen and natural silks, denims are better choices economically and environmentally.

COST: $16.99 and comes in lots of colors – black, navy, olive, rust, light blue and

    RIB KNIT TANK

FIT: When it comes to tanks, the rib knit is where it is at!! The ribbing means the fabric is slightly thicker and lays better, so the overall tank is more forgiving and flattering. Crewneck fitted sleeveless tank with a lettuce edge, it can be worn tucked in or out.

SIZE: True to size. Keep it fitted, but not snug.

CARE: Cotton fabric with a spandex stretch. Wash cold, hang dry.

COST: $14.99, get it in black, white, light blue, navy, mustard, mauve, olive or clay red here.

    SHORT SLEEVE LOOSE SHIRT

FIT: THIS Dolman sleeve, 100% cotton, short sleeve button down is breezy for summer. The full cotton content will let your body breathe and keep you cool in the summer heat.

    SIZE: True to size.

CARE: 100 % cotton will shrink in hot water/dryer. SO, I would machine was cold and hang dry. The iron.

COST: $29.99 and can be purchased here in white, black, bright pink, cobalt blue, olive, rusty orange and sorbet colors.

    OVERSIZED BOYFRIEND SHIRT

The button up Oxford shirt is my absolute favorite to wear. Of all the tee shirts, tanks, camisoles and blouses I own, my oxfords get the most love. They are just so versatile and can be worn for work or casual wear, to church or for a date. I am ALWAYS on the look out for another one to add to my collection. I loved the oversized stripes on this one in the classic blue and white color.

FIT: This button up is a classic oversized style. The stripes are large and such a great alternative to the “banker stripe.”

SIZE: True to Size. This is a small.

CARE: Shirt is 100% cotton. Great QUALITY!! Wash in warm water and dry. Iron.

COST: $ 29.99, Get it here.

If you are building a wardrobe, you should be choosing garments that are of excellent fabric quality to add in seasonally.

I can not stress enough the importance of purchasing clothing that is made of natural fibers – cotton, linen, silk, wool, etc. These fibers will last years when added to your wardrobe. So they are worth the cost at every price level. Old Navy is great at using these fabric contents and pricing them so affordably.

    CONCLUSION

Of all the tops that I tried on, the striped button down and the graphic tee are the two that came home with me. There were so many other great blouses and tees, and I will be back in a couple weeks with another try on.
